Seedling Nursery
We’re now in New Mexico too!
We started a charity tree nursery in northern Taos County, NM, about forty minutes drive north of the Town of Taos, near the Colorado border. A sea of grass surrounded our humble little farm in the 1800s, where mostly only sagebrush grows now. We’ve already started growing seedlings we bought from the State, drought-resistant native evergreens. Shade and windbreakers are the beginnings of efforts to reclaim some of the vast acreage that has turned into mountain desert, partly due to animal agriculture. Trees were harvested for fence posts and firewood, while sheep pulled out the roots of native grasses, and then sage invaded, spreading the monoculture it thrives in. Besides creating an oasis on our land, we plan to offer trees at no cost to community partners, such as faith communities, municipalities, and civic organizations.
We look forward to sharing the solitude and austere beauty of the soul-stirring mountain vistas surrounding our sanctuary on Lovely Lane with a few lucky folks, as our development permits.
